Thomas Geze, prêtre du Chemin Neuf nous partage son expérience suite à sa participation à la 3eme étape de MED25, dont la Communauté est partenaire, un projet qui s’inscrit dans la continuité des Rencontres Méditerranéennes initiés par le Pape François.
J’ai participé pendant 2 semaines à la 3eme étape du projet de MED25, dans la continuité des Rencontres Méditerranéennes initiés par le Pape François (Bari 2020, Florence 2022, Marseille 2023, Tirana 2024). Nous sommes donc partenaire comme Chemin Neuf avec beaucoup de diocèses et d’autres dans ce projet.
Deux semaines en bateau à voiles, sur le Bel Espoir, dépendant du vent et des courants, entre Malte et la Crète en Grèce. Une unité très belle et très forte s’est formée sur ces petits bateaux. En plus de la dizaine de membres d’équipage, nous étions deux encadrants avec 19 jeunes de différents pays (Maroc, Bosnie, France, Italie, Egypte, Liban, Tunisie, Géorgie, Palestine, Roumanie) et de différents horizons (catholiques, orthodoxes, protestants, musulmans, athées..).
Ce petit espace à ressources limitées avec une expérience commune a ouvert vraiment plein de portes de rencontres, de comprendre l’autre, de travailler sur les grosses questions méditerranéennes, comme la migration, le climat, la place des femmes… C’était très intéressant de toucher du doigt aussi les enjeux et les dynamiques qui se jouent dans les différentes structures et associations des pays et leur jointures.
Comme un signe pour notre périple, ce dernier a commencé à Malte au moment des funérailles du pape François qui avait impulsé ce travail méditerranéen et s’est terminé avec l’élection du pape Léon XIV que l’on a vécue dans un pays orthodoxe.
Très significatif aussi la messe que j’ai pu célébrer sur le bateau en plein milieu de la Méditerranée pour les migrants, au moment où des messages à l’aide étaient entendus à la radio…
Autre signe marquant : une messe célébrée pour la paix à l’ouverture du conclave (que l’on avait presque oublié) et qui s’est avérée être prophétique du discours du nouveau pape qui a commencé son allocation sur ce point essentiel de la paix donnée et à construire…
Plein d’autres fioretti, comme une pêche (presque) miraculeuse, des erreurs qui ouvrent à la providence… Beaucoup de choses à relire et à creuser ! Le Seigneur est bon et il fait des merveilles.
J’étais parti avec ce verset :
Ésaie 43,16: « Ainsi parle le SEIGNEUR, qui trace une route dans la mer et un sentier dans les eaux puissantes » et je pense que le Seigneur réalise sa promesse
A training ship for peace – MED25
Thomas Geze, priest of Chemin Neuf, shares his experience following his participation in the third stage of MED25, a project in which the Chemin Neuf Community is a partner, which is a continuation of the Mediterranean Meetings initiated by Pope Francis.
I participated for two weeks in the third stage of the MED25 project, continuing the Mediterranean Meetings initiated by Pope Francis (Bari 2020, Florence 2022, Marseille 2023, Tirana 2024). The Chemin Neuf Community is therefore a partner in this project, along with many dioceses and other organisations.
Two weeks sailing on the Bel Espoir (beautiful hope), relying on the wind and currents, between Malta and Crete in Greece. A beautiful and strong bond formed on these small boats. In addition to the ten crew members, there were two supervisors and 19 young people from different countries (Morocco, Bosnia, France, Italy, Egypt, Lebanon, Tunisia, Georgia, Palestine, Romania) and different backgrounds (Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant, Muslim, atheist, etc.).
This small space with limited resources and a shared experience really opened up many doors for meeting people, understanding others, and working on major Mediterranean issues such as migration, climate, and the role of women. It was very interesting to get a first-hand look at the challenges and dynamics at play in the various structures and associations in different countries and how they interact.
As if it were a sign for our journey, it began in Malta at the time of the funeral of Pope Francis, who had inspired this Mediterranean project, and ended with the election of Pope Leo XIV, which we witnessed in an Orthodox country.
The Mass I celebrated on the boat in the middle of the Mediterranean for migrants, at a time when distress calls were being heard on the radio, was also very meaningful…
Another striking sign: a mass celebrated for peace at the opening of the conclave (which had almost been forgotten) and which proved to be prophetic of the new pope’s speech, which began with this essential point of peace given and to be built…
There are many other fioretti, such as an (almost) miraculous catch of fish, mistakes that open the way to providence… There is much to reread and explore! The Lord is good and does marvellous things.
I left with this verse:
Isaiah 43:16: ‘Thus says the Lord,Who makes a way through the sea, And a path through the mighty waters,’ And I believe that the Lord is fulfilling His promise!
